Manga Simon Peter: From Sand to Stone

Simon’s spiritual journey changed dramatically when he was introduced to Israel’s long-awaited Messiah. Jesus gave him a new name, Cephas, or Peter, which literally means stone or rock. In doing so, Jesus did more than give Simon a nickname. Christ changed this disciple’s name in anticipation of what He would do in and through Peter. It is encouraging to appreciate Simon Peter’s journey and see how he was transformed from a rough, uneducated fisherman to a distinguished spokesman for a group that would turn the world upside down. Like Simon Peter, we can rely on Christ’s strength to enable us to bear fruit despite our failures and inadequacies.
